Arthroscopy is a surgical procedure often used in the diagnosis and treatment of many joint-related problems. It is a minimally invasive surgical technique, with the added benefits of less pain and quicker recovery than more traditional surgical methods.
During this procedure, orthopedic surgeons place a small, tube-like instrument with optical lenses (called an arthroscope) inside the joint. The arthroscope is connected to a video camera so that the interior of the joint can be closely visualized on a monitor. Physicians can then diagnose the cause of the problem and perform a repair if necessary. Arthroscopic surgeries are commonly performed for cartilage and ligament tears in the knee, shoulder, wrist and ankle.
At The Central Orthopedic Group, we commonly use arthroscopy as a means to diagnose and treat our patients.
